Peruvian Blue Opal – Peruvian Dream

Blue-Green Gem from Peru

Upon seeing these gems, one is reminded at once of pure mountain air and a wide sky reflecting in clear mountain lakes.

The colour of Blue Opal ranges from blue to green, with all shades in between, either monochrome or with colour transitions, and sometimes also accompanied by brown and black colour contrasts. The predominantly green colour variety is also called Chrysopal. Pure blue Peruvian Blue Opals are very rare.

Fine traces of copper in Chrysocolla compounds (also known as Gem Silica) are the reason for the colour effect in Peruvian Blue Opal. The rough opals are found in approximately 1- to 5cm-thick veins between layers of other sedimentary stone.

The softly radiant, magical blue-green Peruvian Blue Opals lighten the mood and bring serenity and joy to our lives.

Mining and processing

Peruvian Blue Opals are a fascinating opal variety, which originate from the majestic high mountains of the Andes Mountains in Peru.

Peruvian Blue Opals were discovered in 1983 in the copper mining region south of Lima Acari in the Arequipa Department, and have since enjoyed increasing popularity among opal lovers.
