Project Description

Crystal Opal can be very valuable. The name Crystal Opal is not related to the microstructure of opal, but to its clarity. The variety of Jelly Opal also belongs to the group of Light Opals. Typical for the Jelly Opal is a more or less semi-transparent to translucent white, often yellowish bodycolor, showing a soft play-of-color.
Light Opals are found in larger quantities of rough material and represent the major quantity of precious opals mined worldwide. Because there are larger quantities and more consistent qualities of rough they can be cut into calibrated sizes to make custom jewelery. When it comes to the finer qualities however, like other rare opals each stone is one-of-a-kind. The Light Opals come mainly from the South Australian opal fields Coober Pedy, Mintabie, Lambina, Andamooka and Alan‘s Rise and from White Cliffs in New South Wales. However, there are also opal mines in Brazil around the area of Pedro Segundo in the state of Piaui.
